City of Surrey engaged Reshape Strategies and Morrison Hershfield to advise on the BC Step Code implementation in Surrey City Centre. The work helped inform what level of the BC Energy Step Code the City should adopt in Surrey, with the possibility of more than only one step considered for different areas. The work activities included:
- An assessment of the life-cycle cost and GHG outcomes for various combinations of Step Code level and energy system options
- Sensitivity analysis for high and low bookend assumptions of costs and performance assumptions (for envelope premium, performance gap, energy system cost, energy system efficiencies and renewable energy contribution)
- Recommendations on policy option for the City of Surrey to implement the BC Energy Step in a manner that was consistent with its climate objectives
The analysis was presented in a number of Building Envelope and Energy System (BEST) Roadmaps. The BEST Roadmaps offers an ‘at-a-glance summary’ of the difference pathways (i.e. combination of envelope performance levels and energy system system), and the life-cycle cost and GHG outcomes for each pathway.
Communicating this complex data set through clear and concise infographics helped curate and relay the key conclusions of the analysis to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
